“I like it when a flower or a little tuft of grass grows through a crack in the concrete. It’s so fuckin’ heroic.” ― George Carlin
Whenever we’re walking along the street or through alleyways and find flowers growing out of stone and concrete, it’s definitely heroic. Maybe even a little poetic.
Among all the gray and the grit that you so often stumble upon, it’s always comforting to find something beautiful that will make you smile and forget your troubles. No direct sun, no direct water, no direct nutrients to give it what it needs. Such is the breathtaking sight of flowers growing through concrete.
In elementary school, I remember one of my teachers referring to these flowers with the statement, “Life is stronger than death.” She may have been right.
These powerful images may even remind you that the pain and suffering in our lives are but temporary.
The next time you come across a beautiful flower growing through the cracks beneath your feet, will you stop for a moment and marvel at its glory?
