When Jessica Stevens was 16-years-old, a single tick bite forever changed her life.
For nearly six years, she suffered from a crippling, incurable neurological disorder called Reflex Sympathetic Dystrophy (RSD). She was not only paralyzed, she also experienced excruciating burning pain throughout her body, seizures, and was unable to eat.
At one point, she even begged her mom to let her die in the hospital. However, her mother refused to give up on trying to find a way to save her life.
She ended up taking Jessica to Mexico so that she could receive an incredibly risky treatment. Doctors there placed her in a medically-induced coma, an option not available in the US.
The first two attempts were nearly fatal, but the third produced what her mother is calling a miracle.
