The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Glee star Cory Monteith was found dead in his hotel room at Vancouver’s Fairmont Pacific Rim hotel this morning. He was 31.
While no cause of death has yet been announced, Monteith had voluntarily checked himself into rehab for substance abuse in March; he’d also spent time in rehab when was 19 years old. However, the the star appeared to be doing well in recent weeks, making his first post-rehab appearance alongside his girlfriend (and Glee costar), Lea Michele, on the red carpet at the 12th Annual Chrysalis Butterfly Ball in early June.
Vancouver police stated during a press conference today that when Monteith failed to check out from the hotel this morning, hotel staff went to his room to investigate at around noon. Staff members found his body, and according to PerezHilton.com he appeared to have been deceased “for several hours.”
Police have reviewed hotel video and confirmed the young actor was alone when he returned to his room last night. They also confirmed that his death was not caused by foul play, but an autopsy will be performed to confirm details.
Monteith has played Finn, one of the central characters on the series Glee, since it debuted in 2009.
