Hoax Caller Poses as Doctor, Tells Families Their Children Have Died

Ashley Dodd, from Warciskhire, England pulled one of the sickest hoaxes ever when he called eight different families at random, posed as a doctor and informed them their child had died.

The 28-year-old was taken to Nuneaton Magistrates’ Court for a hearing, where it was revealed he was “messing around” while on six hour drinking binges when he called the victims, according to Her.ie.

Dodd plead guilty to eight offenses under the Malicious Communications Act and was sentenced to 16 weeks in jail. The court said his actions were “extremely upsetting” to the families and caused them much “shock and devastation.” For some families, locating their unharmed child took several hours of dread and anxiety filled searches.

“We are pleased that Mr. Dodd has been brought to justice and hope it will bring some comfort to the families” Det. Con Michelle Russell of Warwickshire Police said.
