How to Help Oklahoma Tornado Victims

Oklahoma imageAfter Monday’s horrific tornado in Oklahoma, many of our readers are looking for ways to help the victims. Whether it’s with recover efforts, sending volunteers or relief crews, or delivering food and water, here’s a list of groups you can explore giving to today.

Team Rubicon: This organization did a ton to help after Superstorm Sandy and is back in action, organizing volunteers from around the country to deploy to Oklahoma. Teams will go house to house in the community, assessing damage and repairing homes quickly. Donate here.

American Red Cross: Well known for being on the scene after emergencies around the country, this group has set up shelters in surrounding communities. Donate to its disaster relief fund here, or just text REDCROSS to 90999 to give $10 easily.

Ryot.org: This website, which encourages readers to take action in connection with news stories, has launched the Oklahoma Tornado Victims Fund to help. And the site will cover all processing fees, so that every bit of what you give will be distributed to organizations that directly benefit affected communities.

Oklahoma Baptist Disaster Relief: This group already has numerous volunteers in affected communities including Shawnee, Edmond and Little Axe. You can donate to its efforts here.

The Salvation Army: This group has dispatched emergency relief crews to the affected areas to deliver food, water and support to victims and first responders. You can donate online, or text STORM to 80888 to contribute $10 right away.

Operation USA: This Los Angeles-based international relief agency is providing emergency aid where needed to community-based health organizations across Oklahoma. You can donate online here, or Text AID to 50555 to donate $10.
