The rules on relationships constantly evolve, and it’s now a woman’s prerogative to ask a man out if she so chooses. However, there’s still the traditional “rules girl” that prefers a man does the asking. Below are some tips to prod him into making the first move so you don’t have to!
GIVE HIM BODY LANGUAGE CUES
When out in public, make eye contact and smile. If you’re out with a gaggle of girlfriends, separate yourself from the herd so it’s easier for a man to approach. Show you’re open to conversation by sitting in a relaxed manner open to the rest of the room.
PLAY HARD TO GET (A LITLLE)
It’s one thing to let a guy know he won’t be rejected, and another to be too dominant. Giggling at a restaurant bar, “I can’t believe you came over here to talk to me—you’re so cute!” is guaranteed to make him wish he hadn’t. A smarter option is to strike up a conversation and then, if you’re interested, have your wing-woman casually tell him “I think my friend likes you,” when you’ve stepped away momentarily.
MAKE YOUR AVAILABILITY KNOWN
Drop casual hints about your schedule so he knows when you’re free. “I know that Starbucks location! I pass by it every evening after 6pm when I finish at the gym.” This gives him an open picture of how you spend your time and when you would be free to see him.
BE RELAXED & GENUINE
As much as you would like to be asked out by this guy, remember this isn’t a job interview with a date being the prize. So relax, see where the conversation goes, and try to live in the moment. If all you’re picturing is the finish line, you’ll never enjoy the journey to find Mr. Right.
