Jena Malone has joined the cast of The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. We recently reported on the casting of Amanda Plummer as Wiress and Philip Seymour Hoffman as the head gamemaker. Now Malone joins these two and others as she takes on the role of Johanna Mason.
According to JustJared.com, “Johanna Mason is a female victor from [one of the] past Games still in her early twenties, and is one of the youngest, but also one of the most psychologically scarred Quarter Quell participants.”
Intersting note: The actress’ initials are the same as the character’s. Coincidence? Perhaps. Let’s move on.
Although Malone’s casting is official and confirmed, one of the most highly anticipated and pivotal roles has yet to be filled. The character of Finnick Odair may very well be going to Snow White and the Huntsman actor Sam Claflin, who has been reportedly offered the role but Lionsgate, the production company handling the movie, has neither confirmed nor denied his casting. Fans will have to wait and see, but we have a feeling that it won’t be too long of a wait.
Production begins in September and the movie will be released on November 22, 2013.
