Jenny Slate to Write New Looney Tunes Movie

Fans of Warner Bros. classic characters Bugs Bunny, Daffy Duck, Porky Pig, Wile E. Coyote, and Tweety Bird will be excited to know a new Looney Tunes movie is in the works. According to The Hollywood Reporter, comedian and actress Jenny Slate has been hired by Warner Bros to pen the new film.

The movie, which is untitled as of now will mark the first feature since 2003’s Looney Tunes: Back in Action, which grossed $68 million worldwide and $20 million in North America.

The new film will likely mix live-actions stars with the animated characters, as this tactic has become popular in recent years in moves such as Alvin and the Chipmunks and The Smurfs.

Slate, who tweeted she “luvs” rabbits and is expected to reboot the franchise, will be joining forces with David Katzenberg, Seth Grahame-Smith and David Heyman as producers. Heyman has also worked on the Harry Potter franchise and Seth Grahame-Smith wrote the script for Dark Shadows.

Slate’s resume includes appearing on HBO’s series Girls, and providing her voice on the animated film The Lorax, but she is probably best known for her one-season appearance on Saturday Night Live, where she once infamously swore during a sketch. She and Fleischer-Camp also produced the short film Marcel The Shell With Shoes On, which received over 18 million views on YouTube and earned the makers a book deal. Slate wrote the script and provided the voice of Marcel.

In anticipation of the new film, we provide this clip of classic Looney Tunes moments. Enjoy!

THAT’S ALL FOLKS…at least for now.
