Ariel Winter’s mother and brother are denying allegations that she was abused in her home. Ariel’s mother, Chrisoula Workman, is telling People magazine, “”It’s all untrue, it’s all untrue.”
Her brother, Jimmy Workman, told US Weekly “There is no truth to these allegations. This is a mother who does everything for her kids… Chris misses Ariel and wants her to come home.”
Chrisoula Workman is accused of “ongoing physical abuse” toward her 14-year-old daughter, including slapping, hitting, name-calling, and personal insults.
Shanelle Workman, Winter’s 34-year-old sister was awarded temporary guardianship of her until a court hearing on November 20.
An independent attorney has been appointed to Winter’s to look out for her best interests during the ongoing court case. See the original story below.
While Modern Family may be a comedy, one of its young actors, Ariel Winter is living out a drama of the worst kind.
TMZ is reporting 14-year-old Winter was removed from the custody of her mother, Cyrstal Workman, after a court hearing on October 3rd of this year. A judge heard allegations that Workman was physically and emotionally abusive toward her daughter, and ordered for Winter to be transferred to the custody of her older sister, Shanelle Workman.
In addition to the shocking charges, Chrisoula Workman is to stay at least 100 yards away from Winter until the next court hearing which is scheduled for later this month.
In what appears to be a sad cycle of abuse, TMZ states that Winter’s older sister Shanelle was also removed from her mother’s care in the 1990s for similar allegations and placed in the foster care system.
Let’s hope things work out better for Winter, an incredibly talented young actress.
In addition to playing Alex Dunphy on Modern Family, Winter has appeared on Bones, ER, and is the lead voice role on Disney Channel’s upcoming series Sofia the First. She’s also appeared in the movies A Thousand Words and Speed Racer.
