The interwebs went absolutely insane for a hot minute today. In fact, Twitter is still pretty fired up considering the news isn’t for real.
What’s the what?
U.K. website Digital Spy published a headline today that read: “Justin Timberlake working on ‘crazy’ new album, says Jim Beanz”. From there, all hell broke loose.
For those not in the know, Jim Beanz is a producer and songwriter who’s worked with Gwen Stefani, Timbaland, and co-wrote Britney Spears’ single “Gimme More.” Beanz evidently revealed that Timberlake was working on new tunes with long-time collaborator Timbaland, and he would be joining them in the studio later this year. “I’m going to be helping out on Shock Value 3 with Timbaland and the Justin Timberlake project,” he said. “It’s still in the early stages, but they have a lot of tracks… [Timberlake] has some crazy, crazy stuff.”
Adding to the story, Beanz said Timberlake wasn’t concerned with one-upping his last album, offering, “It’s not really about topping the last record, it’s more about topping music that comes on the radio… He’s going to kill it.”
Instantly, the news spread like wildfire across the interwebs. Even now, it’s one of the top Twitter tweets.
Sadly, according to Billboard.com, it’s not true. It seems that the way the website took the term “crazy” from the article and put in the headline, and how Beanz said “Justin Timberlake project,” fans assumed that the former N-Sync star was making a solo album. He’s not.
“Timberlake’s publicist tells Billboard that while it’s true the superstar is collaborating with Timbaland, there are no plans for a third solo album,” the music website states. It continues by adding, “Further, Timberlake is currently shooting a movie, Runner, Runner, in Puerto Rico.”
