Terminally Ill Girl Gets an Extra Special Last Birthday Celebration

Lila May is only five-years-old and she is battling stage 4 neuroblastoma. Due to her weakening body, Lila May is unable to continue her chemotherapy treatment. Her family was told she only has until around Thanksgiving.

Knowing their time with their precious girl was running short, Lila May’s family decided to throw her an extravagant birthday celebration.

Unlike a typical 5-year-old’s birthday party, Lila May and her family will be celebrating all of life’s major miles stones together while they still can.

The huge celebration was a wedding, prom, and birthday all combined into one. Knowing that Lila May wouldn’t be able to experience these life events, her parents knew they had to do what they could to make it happen.

Her Parents, Heidi Hall and Ryan Schow created a Facebook event group to start planning her birthday. They received tremendous amounts of support. All things—from the food to the decorations–were donated by people all over the United States.

Over 1,000 people showed up to the party, attending from all over the country.

On July 31, 2015, May dressed up in a gown and attended her birthday ball. During the party, her father symbolically proposed to her and got ceremonially married to her. They had a very emotional father-daughter dance that left Schow in tears.

In regards to the amount of support the family received, Hall said, “It’s deeply touching to see how everyone responded…I don’t even know a lot of these people, it’s just the most beautiful thing I think I’ve ever seen.”

Hall has now started a GiveForward fundraiser so she can take Lila May on the “trip of her life” to Hawaii.

Lila May’s family is doing the best they can to stay positive and cherish the remaining time with their beloved daughter.
