While watching The Graham Norton Show on BBC America, we were treated to four fabulous singers from a British girl group called Little Mix. Because they’re not from the United States and haven’t quite made a splash here (yet), we didn’t know much about them. But one listen to their song “Change Your Life” and we were hooked. Hunting down their entry on Wikipedia, we got these fast facts for you.
The group includes Perrie Edwards, Jesy Nelson, Leigh-Anne Pinnock and Jade Thirlwall, and they formed in 2011 specifically for the UK version of The X Factor. They became the first group entry to win in that program’s history, and immediately signed with Simon Cowell’s record label Syco Records. In January 2013 they signed with Columbia Records in the US, which makes us very happy.
Their debut album is called DNA and it was released last November in Europe. We found their songs “DNA” and “Wings” on YouTube, and after hearing “Wings” we realized we had heard it on SiriusXM, so it was amazing to figure out who the singers actually were. According to the Wiki page, “Wings” is slated to be their first US single, but for our money it should be “Change Your Life.” There’s just something amazing about that song, so we posted the video above.
And, since we love them, we posted “Wings” below. You’re welcome.
Naturally, they have been compared to The Spice Girls. And you know what? There is NOTHING wrong with that — though, to be fair, we think they actually have a hint more depth to their lyrics than those five fabulous females. If you like pop music, girl groups, and a some empowerment ballads, we think you’ll dig on Little Mix. Check them out.
