On Friday, 67-year-old James Stocklas came forward to claim his $291,400,000 Powerball prize. The judge from Pennsylvania purchased the winning ticket while on vacation in the Florida Keys.
“I occasionally play the lottery back home and when I’m in Florida,” he said in a lottery release.
But he wasn’t the only one who had a winning ticket, so did his brother, Bob. They went together to claim their prizes, albeit Bob’s ticket was only worth $7.
James and Bob ended up posing for a Florida lottery photo, each holding up their giant checks.
“I go to the same restaurant every day for breakfast and before I began drinking my coffee of reading the paper, I pulled up the new on my phone and saw a headline about a Florida POWERBALL winner,” Socklas explained. ” I got my POWERBALL ticket out of my wallet to check the numbers, and sure enough, I was the jackpot winner!”
He ended up taking the lump-sum payment of $191,470, 307.58.
We hope he plans on sharing some of those earnings with his brother. We’d like to assume he’s generous, especially considering that he bought everyone in the restaurant breakfast after discovering that he won.
