Billy Standley, 82, has been laid to rest at the Mechanicsburg cemetery in Ohio while seated on his beloved Harley-Davidson motorcycle.
After succumbing to lung cancer on Sunday, the motorcycle enthusiast’s family and friends upheld his wish — to be buried atop his 1967 Electra Glide cruiser. This was made possible with the help of five embalmers, a metal back brace, and straps.
Prior to his death, Standley had a custom casket designed and built. It is a 9-by-11 cement septic tank with Plexiglas, wood and steel rods.
“If you stopped by his house, he showed you his casket,” his son Roy Standley told the Dayton Daily News. “He was proud of it.”
In order to accommodate the massive casket, Standley had to invest in three burial plots located next to his wife, Lorna.
