A fatal road rage incident in New Mexico has led to an arrest of the man who confessed to killing a four-year-old girl. Lilly Garcia was shoot in the head and killed while riding in the car with her mother and father. Tony Torrez was taken into custody after an anonymous tip implicated him in the terrible crime.
Torrez has been charged with murder, aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, assault with the intent to commit a violent felony, shooting at or from a motor vehicle, child abuse, child abuse resulting in death, and tampering with evidence.
Apparently Lilly’s father, who was driving at the time, and Torrez began to cut each other off with their vehicles in traffic. Torrez then pulled up beside the family’s car fired shots from his vehicle, striking the killing Lilly.
He then left the scene of the crime, but reports from eyewitnesses lead to his identification and eventual arrest.
Albuquerque Police Chief Gorden Eden said in a news conference:
“This should have never happened. This is a complete disrespect of human life. We’re starting to see this throughout our nation, and this is something that should not be happening in Albuquerque, New Meixco – let alone anywhere else in the United States.
It’s 100 percent preventable. It did not have to happen, and we need to rise up as a community and say enough is enough.”
