What caused this committed man to hold another woman’s hand for over an hour?
Michael Owen (pictured above with girlfriend, Jemma Richards), a 22-year-old Welshman, was driving with his girlfriend in Chippenham, England when he saw a woman threatening to jump off a bridge onto on-coming traffic below. She was already beyond the safety railings and on the ledge.
He rushed out of his car and ran to her side. He said, “I immediately pulled over to try and slow down the traffic and to help her. I got to her and started talking to her. She was clearly very upset, so I just talked about anything I could think of with her.”
The LAD bible claims that Owen’s heavy Welsh accent calmed down the upset women and holding her hand stopped her from falling.
Although he had a broken finger due to a rugby accident, he continued to hold on to her hand until fire engines and police came to the scene and got her down to safety.
He said, “I have a broken finger from rugby so I was obviously in a bit of pain but I managed to get my grip.”
The Wiltshire Police confirmed that the woman was taken to the Great Western Hospital in Swindon and reported uninjured.
Michael gives himself no credit and simply sees his act as something “any other person would have done” in his situation.
