Adam Guerra, 27, is obsessed with Madonna, so much so that he has endured 18 surgeries and spent more than $175,000 to look like the Material Girl herself.
“I fell in love with Madonna when I was 15,” Adam says on the TLC show, My Strange Addiction. “She just spoke to my soul. I have an addiction to being Madonna. I feel respected when I am Madonna but I don’t know who Adam is.”
The segment from the show is posted above, but here’s the rundown if you’re interested.
While Adam may be going through physical pains to look like the pop star, others in his life are experiencing some emotional drama of their own. There’s his mother, Annette Guerra, who “hates it” and keeps Adam’s life a secret from all her friends — until he crashes one of his mom’s parties in full Madonna-drag, showing just how far he’s willing to display his love for Madge, even if it upsets the ones he loves.
Next there’s his boyfriend Michael, who cares a lot for Adam but is worried that this addiction will “mess everything up” for them. He tries pointing out Adam’s irrational behavior, but that doesn’t seem to sink in. Then he finally offers Adam this ultimatum: “I want to date a boy. I don’t want to date a 56-year-old woman.”
Now, because this is a reality show about addiction, there’s got to be an intervention. That brings Adam to dance coach Carlton Wilborn, a former Madonna back-up performer who’s now working as a life coach. Not knowing the true motives behind the meeting, Adam is initially thrilled at the opportunity to work with one of Madonna’s dancers — until he has to deal with his behavior in a very big (and very Madonna) kind of way.
We won’t ruin that story for you. You can see how that all ends on the video above.
According to The Daily Mail, Adam was in one episode of RuPaul’s Drag Race, a TV show created to find “America’s Next Drag Superstar,” in 2011. He was kicked off after one episode. He also recorded a single with fellow cosmetic surgery addict Toby Sheldon, 34, who spent more than $100,000 to look like Justin Bieber and has also appeared on My Strange Addiction.
