The well known Marilyn Monroe image, that shows the starlet atop a New York City subway grate with her dress billowing up, is back where it got its start: right outside that same Times Square subway station.
The famous image, along with eight other Sam Shaw pictures, are part of a year-long exhibit that takes place inside the 42nd Street-Bryant Park station on the B,D,F,M and 7 lines.
The exhibit is part of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority’s Arts for Transit program. The manager, Lester Burg, says it made sense to match a mass transit setting with a popular figure from mass culture.
