The World’s Ugliest Dog competition took place recently, as canine hopefuls from all over came to potentially win the title. The 2015 winner was a surprising one for some, as her deformity is what sets her apart. Quasi Modo, a 10-year-old mutt took home the blue ribbon for first place and has been making headlines ever since.
The pit bull-shepherd mix was adopted from a shelter by a veterinarian. She has many spine deformities causing her to walk with a hunched back.
The dogs were given scores by judges in several categories including natural ugliness, personality, first impressions, unusual attributes and audience impression. Quasi Modo beat out 26 other dogs.
Marketing director Karen Spencer works for Sonoma-Marin Fair, the company who set-up the event and says the competition is not just about the looks. “We aren’t interested in lineage; it’s the inner beauty and personality that shine in our World’s Ugliest Dog contest,” Spencer said.
The winner and her owner were cheered on by over 500 people who stood by and watched they walked the red carpet. Quasi Modo will now live like a real-life celebrity as she is set to travel to San Francisco and New York for special appearances. She will also be featured on an upcoming taping for Jimmy Kimmel Live!
