Mom Arrested for Abandoning Infant on the Side of the Road

A woman in Maryland was arrested, after she was identified as the mother of a baby who was found abandoned on the side of a road. Sandra Clara McClary, 26, has been accused of taking the infant out of the car and leaving her. McClary has been subsequently charged with child neglect and reckless endangerment, according to ABC News.

In a statement, Anne Arundel County police said that McClary contacted police after they posted the infant’s photo on social media—when they were still trying to piece together the girl’s identity. McClary apparently told police that the child’s father was supposed to be with her but instead neither parent knew where the girl was.

However investigators concluded that the baby had been in the car with McCleary, and that McCleary abandoned her.

The girl was found in a car seat, completely alone around midnight last week. Police believe her to be only two or three months old.

She was treated for dehydration at a hospital, and is reportedly in good condition now. The baby is in the custody of Child Protective Services.

Police say they will continue to investigate the circumstances that led to the infant being left roadside.
