A Texas mother was arrested after she allegedly pulled a gun on a 14-year-old girl, according to news reports. Viridiana Alvarez, 33 tried to intervene in a fight between her 14-year-old and her daughter. She is shown in video pointing a handgun at the head of the other girl.
The confrontation between the teens was allegedly the result of a feud because both girls liked the same boy. The girl, Victoria Myers, told KHOU that Alvarez’s daughter challenged her to the fight.
The incident occurred in a park next to Pasadena High School in Houston.
Both girls arrived at the park and became physically violent with each other. The all-out brawl caught the attention of a large crowd, and authorities had to be called to the scene to break up the fight.
“I don’t think a grown woman should be taking a gun where kids are. I think it’s wrong,” said Myers’ grandmother.
Myers said she never realized Alvarez had a gun until she saw a picture of it from the footage of the fight afterward.
Alvarez claims the handgun was not loaded, and she was only trying to scare off the girl and end the fight. She was arrested and charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and remains in jail on a $35,000 bond.
Myers and Alvarez’s daughter were both suspended from school, and will be required to take a 5-day guidance course.
