When internet trolls got a hold of a photo of Kyra Pringle’s two-year-old daughter things turned ugly really quick.
Her toddler, Mariah Anderson, was born with an extremely rare genetic condition called Chromosome Two Duplication Syndrome. Since being born, she has been struggling just to stay alive, and she isn’t expected to live much longer.
“She’s just a joy, it’s a joy to have her right now,” said her mother. “It’s just to the point where we’re enjoying her.”
Last Saturday, Pringle posted a photo of her daughter on her Facebook wall and it immediately went viral. Thousands of people began sharing the image and commenting, however, they weren’t saying the kind of things any mother wants to hear.
“She’s not a monster,” Pringle said during an emotional interview with Charlotte’s News 2. “She’s not fake. She’s real. She is here.”
The photo, which was taken during Mariah’s birthday, received countless cruel comments making fun of her appearance — comparing her to a leprechaun.
“If you’re out there and you’re doing these things, and you think that it’s funny, it’s not funny,” said Mariah’s grandmother. “This is actually a human being, this is a child, this is a baby.”
Thankfully, since the incident made national news, a few people have reached to the family to apologize for their nasty behavior.
