Unattended Children Die in House Fire, Mother Was at Hair Salon

A Louisiana mother has been charged with two counts of negligent homicide after leaving her two children (3 and 4-years-old) alone while she went to her hair salon.

Ciarra Johnson, 21, claims that she had asked a family member to watch the children, but authorities allege that her story is false.

“Our investigation determined that she made no such arrangements,” State Fire Marshal Deputy Chief Brant Thompson told USA Today.

Thompson said that the fire department was alerted at 3 p.m. and Johnson had left her children alone as early as 10 a.m.

Investigators discovered flammable materials next to a space heater, which they think is the cause of the deadly fire.
