MTV Video Music Award Winners & Best Highlights of the Night

The 29th Annual VMA awards took place last night at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and there was no shortage of fans or show highlights.

Comedian Kevin Hart hosted this year, and as expected, took aim at many singers, particularly Drake and Chris Brown whose entourages famously got into a bar brawl earlier this summer. Both young men hold long term grudges against the other since they were both romantically linked to singer Rihanna.

And, speaking of Ri Ri, her hit song “We Found Love,” won Video of the Year, the VMA’s top honor. She sat with bestie Katy Perry, after wowing the crowd with two of her hit songs, “Cockiness (I Love It),” and “We found Love.”

She didn’t steal the show though. British pop band One Direction did. They went home with three awards (Best Pop Video, Best New Artist, and Most Share-Worthy Video) and the sounds of screaming girls still ringing in their ears.

Singer Alicia Keys made the night (a raunchy one) a family affair, bringing along her music producer husband Swizz Beatz and their 2-year-old son, Egypt. Even Alicia’s Twitter followers questioned why she would bring her little one to the affair, which featured many expletive-filled songs.

Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj, Lil Wayne and US Olympic gymnastics gold medal winner Gabby Douglas all had buzz-worthy moments as well.
