On Thursday, March 31, 2016 a Muslim woman of Middle Eastern descent told New York City police that she’d been leaving her classes at a nearby beauty school when a white male attacker called her a “f–king terrorist” on a lower Manhattan street before slashing her face and running off.
The 20-year-old woman had been wearing a head scarf while walking on Broadway near Rector Street at about 4:20 p.m, she told cops.
“She’s got a noticeable-sized cut to the left side of her cheek,” said a police official afterward.
Police scoured the area and checked surveillance videos for evidence of the attack. They found nothing
After being questioned at Bellevue Hospital Center, the woman eventually told police that she had slashed herself.
She is being held at Bellevue for a psychiatric evaluation.
