Who left this old trash-filled casket on a New York City street? That’s the question police are trying to answer, after resident of the Brooklyn neighborhood in Bushwick made the shocking discovery. According to reports, the resident witnessed an unknown man dump the casket around 6 a.m. on Tuesday.
Missing a lid, the muddy casket appears to have been dug up and is estimated to have been buried at least 25 years ago.
Disturbingly, a medical examiner for the NYPD confirmed that there were human bones inside along with trash remnants.
The eyewitness, going only by the name “Michael” for fear that he was seen by the perpetrator, said he was walking his dog in the early hours of the morning when he saw something strange. A white van pulled out, and a man dumped the beat up casket on the street before driving off again.
While some wonder if the casket was dug up from a nearby cemetery, according to reports there have been no reported disturbances that would indicate a point of origin.
The NYPD’s 83rd Precinct in charge of the investigation made the following statement on Twitter:
“Nobody knows who dumped a casket with no body in it. Investigation is ongoing 2 find the people responsible. Not Cool”
