Back in September 2013, the Portuguese American Journal reported that a “subaquatic pyramidal structure” was discovered off the coast of Terceira Island in Portugal.
When private yacht owner Diocleciano Silva stumbled upon the finding, he was thrilled. “The pyramid is perfectly shaped and apparently oriented by the cardinal points,” Silva told Diário Insular, the local newspaper. The cardinal points are the most commonly used forms of direction, and include North, South, East and West.
Nearly 200 feet high, it is estimated that the pyramid has been underwater for 20,000 years–dating back to the last ice age. The exact coordinates of the pyramid have not been released to the public.
There has been some speculation about who constructed the underwater pyramid, with claims that it wasn’t even man made.
Investigations by the Portuguese Navy surrounding the structure have given us the notion that it’s not really a pyramid, but an underwater volcano. However, there are people who believe this is just a cover up to conceal the mystical discovery.
If it truly is a pyramid, why hadn’t NOAA, who frequents the area studying volcanic activity, found it with their sonar imaging?
Others think the finding is a link to the lost city of Atlantis.
