One-Legged Soccer Phenom Inspires World Cup Commercial

Powerade’s new two-minute spot, “Nico’s Story,” is definitely one you have to watch.

This story is both beautiful and inspiring.

Nico Calabria was born with only one leg, but that didn’t stop him from becoming one of the best (and youngest) soccer players on the US National Amputee Soccer Team.

In the ad, by Wieden + Kennedy Amsterdam, you’ll watch Nico grow from a toddler struggling to accept his disability into a remarkable soccer star. He even went on to climb Mount Kilimanjaro.

Despite not being a professional athlete, the Coca-Cola brand decided to feature him as part of its  2014 FIFA World Cup campaign.

And we are so grateful that they did! His face and determination say it all.

We can’t remember a time when an ad was capable of generating this kind of emotional impact, as well as being a platform to inspire generations to come.
