Nominees for 55th Annual Grammy Awards Announced

It was a six way tie for the top last night at the Grammy nomination concert. A partial nominations list for the 55th Annual Grammy Awards, set to take place in February, was announced in the televised event.

Cohosts Taylor Swift and LL Cool J handed out the tickets with Kanye West, Jay-Z, Frank Ocean, Dan Auerbach of The Black Keys, Mumford & Sons and fun. all receiving the most nods out of the long list.

Many first timers nabbed nominations for some of the most anticipated and respected awards. Frank Ocean and fun. are up for Best New Artist and Record of the Year. Other first timers include Gotye, Hunter Hayes, the Lumineers, Alabama Shakes and Ed Sheeran and Carly Rae Jepsen who received song of the year nominations for their singles, “The A Team” and “Call Me Maybe,” respectively.

Of course there were other nominees who returned to reclaim their spots on the list. Artists such as Jay Z and Kanye West have been favorites at the awards show for the last several years.

Interesting to note, as Chris Talbott of The Associated Press pointed out is this year’s “nominations reflect a singles-driven year when no album rose to the level of acclaim as Adele’s 21 or West’s My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy, which dominated the Grammys last February.
