We all have stories of first-day disasters at work. Let’s welcome A.J. Clemente to the club.
The news anchor was hosting his very first weekend bit this Sunday for Bismarck, N.D., when a cringe-worthy moment that he’ll probably remember for a long time took place. While rehearsing how to pronounce London Marathon winner Tsegaye Kebede’s name, Clemente became frustrated with how difficult the task was. Unaware that his mic was on, the flustered anchor muttered the words “f—in’ sh—” to himself, his co-anchor Van Tieu and everyone watching the show — which now includes us, of course.
That wasn’t the end of the whole ordeal. When Clemente realized the mic was on and the camera was rolling, his co-anchor asked him to introduce himself. Embarrassed and nervous, he forced out a few mumbled words that only added to the awkwardness of the moment.
We sincerely wish the news station would have let the incident go as an understandable first day blunder, but according to Slate, Clementine was fired for his gaffe.
Watch the moment above, and tell us if you think the North Dakota channel made a fair decision in letting him go.
