Police in Evansville, Indiana arrested the mother of a one-year-old baby and her boyfriend in relation to a video showing the toddler playing with a 40-caliber handgun. The Guardian reports police found the video on the cellphone of 19-year-old robbery suspect Michael Barnes after he was arrested Thursday night for selling a gun to an undercover police officer.
The video discovered on his cellphone shows the baby putting the muzzle into his mouth, and Barnes instructing him to say “pow.” Police determined that Barnes’s girlfriend Toni Wilson, 22, was present when the video was filmed. When questioned, she claimed the gun in the video was only a pellet gun.
Barnes and Wilson were both arrested and face charges of child neglect, criminal recklessness with a deadly weapon and allowing a child to possess a firearm. The child and his two half-sibling have been placed in emergency care.
