This is why we have a pandemic, people.
In a series of recent sermons, a pastor at an Alabama Baptist church recently confessed that he slept with several members of his congregation without telling them he has AIDS.
Pastor Juan Demetrius McFarland has been HIV positive since 2003, and contracted AIDS in 2008. He only informed his followers at the Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church of Montgomery of this fact last month, to an initially supportive reaction. He went on to confess that he had mismanaged church funds, used illicit drugs, and slept with several female congregants without informing them of his disease.
The congregation reacted with disbelief, and contacted local news station WSFA.
“I know a young lady who is a member of the church who says she has slept with him and that she didn’t want this to go public, and she running out now trying to find out if there is anything wrong with her,” said one church member, who wished to remain anonymous. “And my heart goes out to her because she’s been a wonderful church member, and then for something like this to happen. The fact that he didn’t tell them at all. That’s a crime in itself.”
McFarland was dismissed from the church on October 5, and could face misdemeanor charges of transmitting a sexually transmitted disease.
