Paula Deen Appears on TODAY, Talks Scandal While Promoting New Project

“Words are so powerful. They can hurt. They can make people happy. Well, my words hurt people.”

That’s what Paula Deen told Matt Lauer when she appeared on TODAY Tuesday morning, more than a year after the racism scandal destroyed her multi-million dollar culinary empire.

In regard to her words that hurt people, she went on to say, “They disappointed people and frankly, I disappointed myself. And for that, I’m so sorry, I’m so sorry for the hurt that I caused people because it went deep.”

So why did she appear on TODAY next to her sons Jaime and Bobby? To promote her new subscription-based Paula Deen Network online channel, “The Paula Deen Network,” which has developed 100 new shows and has been filming content for the past year. Following the scandal, Deen also purchased the rights to her old cooking shows from The Food Network; repeats of that programming will round out the online network’s programming. So will a documentary.

“I’ve learned so much over the year. I really feel like it’s going to require another book, but we are working on a documentary because I feel like everybody needs to know the whole entire story,” she said.
