If you owned a million dollar luxury vehicle, would you just simply abandon it and let it collect dust? Probably not.
However, if you lived in the UAE, you wouldn’t even hesitate to leave it behind. That’s because the UAE has the Sharia law. Under Sharia law, you can be imprisoned for not paying your debts, which includes credit card payments, defaulting on your mortgage or failing to make your car payment. Unfortunately, there is no bankruptcy protection for citizens in Dubai. After abandoning their car, people usually flee the country to avoid being thrown in prison.
People abandoning their cars is a really big problem. On average, police impound around 3,000 luxury vehicles that have been ditched each year.
As you can imagine, most impounded vehicles are never claimed by their owners.
