People Launch Campaign to Punish Man Who Buried Elderly Dog Alive

While taking his dog for a walk in Carrieres-sur-Seine, west of Paris, Pedro Dinis discovered something no animal lover could stomach.

He just happened to be at the right place at the right time. And in doing so, he saved the life of an elderly French mastiff. The dog was buried alive by her owner, with only her head sticking out of the dirt. She was also tied down by a bag of gravel to make sure she couldn’t escape on her own.

Dinis immediately worked to free the poor dog, who was extremely weak and dehydrated. Then, she was taken to the vet to be looked over and cared for.

Authorities were able to track down the dog’s sadistic owner and charged him with animal cruelty. He could face up to two years in prison and be forced to pay a fine of up to $32,700.

According to Le Parisian, he claimed the dog ran away on her own, but considering that she is nearly 10-years-old and suffering from arthritis, investigators knew he was lying.

Photos of the animal have since went viral on social media and sparked outrage. There is even a petition online that people are signing with the hopes the the owner will receive the maximum punishment for what he has done.

It has already received 329,000 signatures.
