When Marie Holmes won a $188 million Powerball jackpot back in February, she said she planned to put away the cash for her children’s education, travel, pursue a nursing career, and donate to organizations associated with cerebral palsy.
However, the single mother of four ended up using a large sum of that money to do something else — bail her boyfriend, Lamarr McDow, out of jail.
According to WWAY, Holmes was behind McDow’s $3 bond release back in March, just a few weeks after hitting the jackpot. He was serving time on heroin trafficking charges after police discovered 8,000 bags of heroin in his possession.
When McDow later violated the terms of his release, he was put back in Brunswick County Jail. But Holmes came to his rescue, again, offering up a $6 million bond for his release.
Holmes posted this comment regarding her decision to spend the winnings on her man’s bail on the news station’s Facebook page:
What Y’all need to be worried about is Y’all money and not how I spend mine this is benefitting Y’all how? And no he’s no drug dealer or user but who are Y’all to judge anybody? I will definitely pray for Y’all because it’s much need…they talked about Jesus so I’m not surprised Y’all are talking about me but be blessed though.
