A minor traffic stop turned into a drug charges for a 22-year-old pregnant woman who was found with 89 packets of heroin stashed in one of her body cavities, the North Jersey Record reported.
Marina McCarthy, who is six months pregnant, was caught on camera in the back seat of the police cruiser shoving the drugs into the body cavity, according to police.
McCarthy was in a vehicle driven by Dakota Dunning when the pair were pulled over for not having registration visibly displayed. Dunning, 27, who also had an active warrant out in New Jersey, was driving with a suspended license, in an unregistered and uninsured vehicle.
The pair was detained while police searched the vehicle.
Although police suspected drugs—Dunning had needle track marks indicative of drug use, and a dog from the Bergen County Sherriff’s K-9 unit indicated there were drugs in the car—a search of the vehicle initially turned up empty.
It wasn’t until detectives reviewed footage from the police cruiser’s camera that they witnessed McCarthy reaching into her pants.
A female officer performed a body search in a bathroom, and recovered 89 bags of heroin.
McCarthy has been charged with possession of a controlled dangerous substance. Both Dunning and McCarthy have been released with pending court appearances.
