Rabbi Sentenced to Prison for Torturing Jewish Men Until They Agreed to Divorce Their Wives

A rabbi has been sentenced to 10 years in a New Jersey prison. Rabbi Mendel Epstein is responsible for kidnapping Jewish men and torturing them until they agreed to divorce their wives.

It all began in 2013 when the FBI found the 70-year-old rabbi leading a team who would aid in kidnapping the married men, handcuffing, and then beating them with cattle prods. According to PEOPLE, married Jewish women who wanted to be separated from their husbands would go to Epstien, who would then charge a hefty fee of about $60,000 to convince the men to get a divorce.

He was caught by two agents who went undercover and acted as customers in need of his service. While he has been sentenced, Epstein’s attorney is planning on appealing his client’s conviction.
