Randy Jackson Back on as Judge for American Idol

It’s confirmed! After much talk about American Idol’s only remaining original panelist leaving his position for the upcoming season in favor of a mentor role, TVLine reports Randy Jackson is here to stay, and he has former co-host Simon Cowell to thank in part for letting the cat out of the bag.

The X-factor judge sent out a tweet yesterday that read, “Just heard Randy is back on Idol. Right decision,” and sparked an internet frenzy.

A source close to the show confirmed to TVLine saying, “The rumors are true.”

As we reported, even as recently as yesterday Jackson himself declined to comment or say much about his return or the signing on of any potential judges. A spokesperson for Fox also declined to comment on Jackson’s return.

Jackson will be returning alongside Mariah Carey who signed on after Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler both stepped down from the show earlier this year. Carey and Jackson will be joined by either one or two other judges when the show returns in January.

Potential judges who have been discussed for the show include Nicki Minaj, Keith Urban, Enrique Iglesias, and Adam Lambert, with Minaj and Urban as front-runners.
