Real World: Hollywood star Joey Kovar was found dead this morning at a friend’s house in his native Chicago, TMZ reports. The aspiring actor and reality star was 29.
A rep for Kovar said a female friend found him bleeding and called 911. Authorities pronounced him dead at the scene.
Kovar battled addictions with drugs publicly on the Real World in 2008, and even left midway through the season to enter rehab. He returned to the show but left again, fearing a relapse. On the reunion special for the show, he announced he was sober for a year. He relapsed later and appeared on the VH1 Reality show Celebrity Rehab in 2009 for his use of cocaine and ecstasy.
MTV issued a statement following the news: “MTV is deeply saddened to learn that Joey Kovar of The Real World: Hollywood has passed away. We offer our sympathies to Joey’s loved ones, friends and fans.”
He is survived by a 3-year-old son and a 2-year-old daughter. An autopsy is scheduled for Saturday, according to Celebuzz.
