The owner of a diner in Portland, Maine came under fire when news got out that she yelled at a two-year-old girl inside her restaurant, in front of the girl’s parents. Now the owner of Marcy’s Diner, named Darla Neugebauer, is defending her harsh words and justifying why she snapped.
Neugebauer said that the parents ordered three large pancakes for the child, but then didn’t feed them too her—instead leaving the plate out of the girl’s reach, which made the child cry.
Apparently Neugebauer then asked the whole table to leave, and finally screamed at the child to be quiet.
The story went viral after the child’s mother wrote about the incident on the Marcy’s Diner Facebook page, prompting a controversial response from Neugebauer.
The mother wrote “I had the worst experience at this establishment. The owner is a lunatic and screamed in the face of my almost 2-year-old because she was crying. Who in their right mind would behave like that?”
Neugebauer responded with:
Her response has naturally evoked criticism from social media, and surprisingly has rallied support from across the Internet as well.
Neugebauer said that she didn’t feel sorry about her actions—because it made the screaming stop—but admitted that she “might have used poor judgement.”
