A religious group called the Satanic Temple is making plans to hand out reading materials to elementary school children in Florida public schools.
This decision comes shortly after both atheist and Evangelical Christian groups handed out literature of their own to children in Orange County Public Schools. Now the Satan-worshiping group is hoping to indoctrinate children with books advertising their own religion, including one titled “The Satanic Children’s Big Book of Activities.” One can only speculate at some of the wholesome activities contained within.
“The whole point here is not indoctrination but rather counter-indoctrination,” Lucien Greaves, spokesperson for the New York-based Satanic Temple, told local news outlet WFTV.
Greaves also said the church will leave pamphlets and children’s books wherever Christians leave bibles, in the spirit of not-so-friendly competition.
“It’s far better philosophically for us and we feel for the students, that they see there is a multiplicity of voices and that there’s many voices and choices,” said Greaves.
While Greaves may have some surprisingly articulate arguments, it doesn’t sway Matthew Staver, a representative of the group distributing bibles in local schools, who said he sees the move as an attack, seeking to shut down any opposing viewpoint.
The school district has yet to receive a request from the Satanic Temple, but they say all items distributed are subject to review.
Will the next generations of Floridians be swayed by The Satanic Children’s Big Book of Activities and pamphlets into worshiping the dark prince? It wouldn’t be the craziest thing to happen in Florida.
