The Talk co-host Sharon Osbourne revealed exclusively to Hello! magazine (issue on stands today) that she underwent a double mastectomy after testing positive for the gene that increases the risk of developing breast cancer.
Already a colon cancer survivor, 60-year-old Sharon says deciding to undergo the procedure was a “no-brainer,” and that she “didn’t want to live the rest of my life with that shadow hanging over me.”
After Osbourne tested positive for the breast cancer gene, she felt the odds were not in favor, going on to say , “It’s not ‘pity me.’ It’s a decision I made that’s got rid of this weight that I was carrying around.”
Adding to Osbourne’s decision was her determination to be around for her children and her new grandchild.
“I want to be around for a long time and be a grandmother to Pearl,” says Osbourne. “I didn’t even think of my breasts in a nostalgic way. I just wanted to be able to live my life without that fear all the time.”
In addition to having the double mastectomy, Osbourne also admits to the magazine she’s had more cosmetic surgery, but says she’s now done.
“Now I am definitely, definitely done. You can’t buy your youth back, no matter how much money you’ve got. I won’t be going under the knife again.”
