According to the Alzheimer’s Association, more than 5.3 million people living in the United States suffer from Alzheimer’s disease.
The disease is a form of dementia which irreversibly destroys a person’s brain cells, leading to memory loss and intellectual ability. It is also fatal, with no known cure.
For one man, watching as his mother’s cognitive ability slips away is both frustrating and heartbreaking.
In the video above, he documents a moment of his mother’s life before the disease stole her ability to perform basic functions.
I realize how disturbing this video can be to watch. This was about a year and a half ago when I lived with my parents to help my Dad take care of my mom before she went into Alzheimer’s assisted living. She now can no longer talk or walk.
