Spice Girl Melanie Brown will join the judging panel for the hit reality competition show, America’s Got Talent, when it returns this summer.
Fans of the show will recall veteran judge Sharon Osbourne left the show last year, citing personal issues with the network. That left Howie Mandel, also a veteran judge on the show, and newcomer Howard Stern as the two remaining judges.
The former Spice Girl brings experience as a judge on the Australian version of The X Factor as well as a guest host stint on the show’s UK version.
“I’ve known Melanie since she did Dancing with the Stars, and I’ve known her as a performer in The Spice Girls before that,” said NBC president of alternative Paul Telegdy. “To know her is
to know a very frank, strong, enduring entertainer. Someone who has a very strong point of view. We needed somebody who was qualified for the job. She’s an amazing singer, dancer and a huge personality. The contestants will get a lot of constructive feedback from her and I can’t wait to see her chemistry with Howard and Howie.”
Neither can we.
EW also reports that NBC is considering hiring a fourth judge for the show, but it is not officially confirmed yet.
“The right person has to show their hand,” Telegdy says about the possibility.
