YouTube user Robert Krampf had a problem, but his wife had a creative – not to mention hilarious – solution.
It seems a meddlesome, hungry squirrel had been stealing seed from a bird feeder in his garden, depriving those hungry birds of their rightful meal.
So Krampf’s wife decided to smear Vaseline on the pole leading to the feeder. That way, when the squirrel tried to climb it, it was shocked to find itself unable to climb the pole, normally a simple task for a squirrel.
Thus, it was forced to get creative, but no matter how hard it tried, how high it jumped, it couldn’t quite reach the bird feed to stuff his cheeks full of food. It’s simultaneously hilarious and adorable, and you can check it out above.
Before you start crying animal cruelty, read Krampf’s statement on why little experiment:
For anyone who is concerned about the squirrel, he still raids our other two feeders and the vegetable garden. The tiny amount of Vaseline used is non-toxic, the kind used for lip balm. He quickly learned that this feeder was not worth the trouble, so we have not put more on the pole, and the birds are delighted to actually get some of the bird seed.
