Stunning 19th Century Colorized Images of Native Americans

While working on the short film Moses on the Mesa, director Paul Ratner fell in love with these photographs of Native Americans. The images are from the late 19th and early 20th centuries.

Needless to say, they are absolutely stunning. The pictures give us a glimpse into a long-forgotten world when medicine men and tribal chiefs traveled throughout America’s open plains.

The photos were painted to give them the illusion of being colorized.

Featured in the slideshow above are the images of various tribes, including the Ojibwe, Siksika, and the Cheyenne.
