Talented photographer Martin Beck has snapped photos of some of our favorite superheroes, but he’s caught them in a whole new light. Beck’s collection of 20 portraits depicts some of the most popular superheroes from the comic world—including Batman, Iron Man and Wonder Woman—struggling with the gritty reality of day-to-day living.
Beck says on his site that he set out to humanize the superheroes, because in popular culture they are idolized as completely perfect—without flaw and literally super-human—achieving unbelievable feats. Through his depiction, he hopes to inspire people to push past their flaws and failures and realize they can be a hero to their family and friends.
“Despite our flaws and failures, each of us, in our own way, can be heroes to our family, our friends, our colleague and we all have the potential to help others. My Heroes are regular people not restricted by race, religion or beliefs. They live among us, they surround us, they are everywhere. Everyone is a superhero.”
The collection is aptly titled ‘We Can Be Heroes’, and has been exhibited and sold at the Middle East Film & Comic Con 2015 earlier this month.
