There’s a reason why you are required to stop for a school bus that is pulled to the side of the road.
Many drivers are confused about right of way rules and school bus laws. Some people think they’re only supposed to stop if the bus is on their side of the road. However, various state laws demand drivers halt on the opposite side of the road or at an approaching intersection.
On Friday, three children were almost run over by an SUV while walking toward their bus in Graham, Washington.
On-board surveillance caught the close call from three different angles, and witnesses allege the SUV never even slowed down.
Thankfully, nobody was injured.
A spokesperson for the Bethel School District says the school bus lights were flashing, and the paddle was extended, but the driver seemed to disregard them both.
