Taylor Swift is queen when it comes to getting to know her fans on a personal level. She takes selfies with them, sends them Christmas presents, and writes them handwritten cards. Unsurprisingly, the pop-sensation has done it again. This time however, her action caused a ripple effect and stirred the company GoFundMe to raise their giving limit.
GoFundMe is a DIY fundraising site where you can raise money for your own personal causes. You simply write a description of why you need funds — it can be anything from your house burned down to your puppy in need of a surgery — and you can publish the campaign, ask friends, family and the general public to fund your cause.
Naomi Oakes, an 11-year-old Swiftie fighting cancer, recently posted a GoFundMe campaign (via her aunt) asking for funds to cover her growing medical expenses.
She was unable to attend Swift’s concert due to her recent diagnosis and word of this reached Swift herself. She acted right away and donated a whopping $50,000 to her campaign. On her donation she left a little note saying,
“To the beautiful and brave Naomi, I’m sorry you have to miss [my concert], but there will always be more concerts,” wrote Swift when giving the donation. “Let’s focus on getting you feeling better. I’m sending the biggest hugs to you and your family.”
GoFundMe had their donation limit set at $15,000 per donation so Swift made four donations. When this reached GuFundMe’s CEO Rob Solomon, he was so touched that he increased the site’s overall giving limit to $50,000. He said,
“Taylor Swift’s donation was so generous that it required us to increase the donation limit on the platform.”
